Using MARPA
Target Vector and History
TheMARPA targets can be displayed witha vector lineshowingwherethey
willbe at a certaintime in the future,(assuming presentcourseandspeed).
Youcanselecta relativeor truevectorand the vectorlength.Thevectortype
(RV orTV)andlengthare shown in the statusbar.
Youcanalsoselecttoview the target’s history,this appearsas a series of dots
thataredroppedbythetargetas it makesway. The intervalbetweenthemis
selectable.
Arelative vector indicates the target’s motionrelatedtoyourown ship’s
motion.The target’srelativecourseand speedarecalculated to producea
vectorthatisdisplayed onthetargetonly. This mode is used for collision
avoidanceandthreatassessment.
Atruevectorindicatesthetarget’smotion overground. In thismodetrue
vectorsfor thetarget and your own ship are displayed.MARPAmeasuresthe
direction inwhich the target and own ship are actuallymoving overthe
ground.Theresultisthevessel’struecourse,the rateof motionisthe vessel’s
truespeed.Considerthismotionas if you wereinahelicopterlookingdown
watchingthe targets moveacross thewater. This mode canaid navigation.

Repeater Displays
Onanintegratedhsb

displaysystemtherepeaterdisplay(withtheappropriate
software version)canaccesstheMARPAfunctions,and targetsare shownon
therepeaterdisplay.MARPA dataisalsosent on NMEA allowinganyother
equipment,withthe necessaryfunctionality,to showthetrackedtargets’ data.
Radar Range Scales
MARPA targetacquisitionisonlyavailableat radar rangescales ofup to
12nm,althoughtrackingcontinuesat allranges.
Note:If you change to a lower rangescale,targetsmaybebeyondthe range
ofthescannerandwillbelost.In suchcasesan alarmpop-up indicatesthe
targetisoff-screen.
Using MARPA
TheMARPA functionsare accessedthrough the MARPA defaultsoftkey,and
someoptions areavailablewiththe context sensitive cursor, or throughthe
MARPA databaselist.Where there aretwowaysofperforminga certain
functionthissectiondescribes bothways. Informationon how to set up the
MARPAsystem is in Section 7.5.
