GPSset uppage providesyouwithinformationandthestatus of thetracked
navigationsatellitesforaSeaTalkGPS.ItalsoenablesyoutoSET UP aSeaTalk
DifferentialGPS,by manuallyretuningit toadifferent differential beacon.
TheGPS Navigation Status pop-up window(shownin Figure 6-4)provides,
foreach trackedsatellite,the satellitenumber,agraphicalsignalstrengthbar
andits currentusage status.HDOP and satelliteFix Status are also displayed.
Datafor up to 12 satellitesare shown.

Positional accuracyis dependentupon certainparameters;in particularfor
GPS,the azimuth and elevationanglesareused in a triangulationprocessto
calculate position. HDOP (HorizontalDilutionOf Position)is a measure of
thisaccuracy;a higherfiguresignifiesgreatererror.In ideal circumstances,
thefigureshouldbe in the region of 1.0.TheFixStatus can indicate:
• FIX,where a satellitefixhas been acquired.
• D-FIX,wherea differentialbeacon fixhasbeenacquired.
• SD-FIX,where a satellitedifferentialfix has beenacquired.
• NO FIX, where no fix can be acquired.
