4. Usethetrackpadtomovethesliderupordown.Youcanpressandholdthe
controltomovethe slider quicklyratherthanin single steps.
Theimageonthescreenchangesasyoumovetheslider,sothatyoucansee
theeffect of your adjustment.
IfyouselectMANUAL TUNE adjustment,an8-stepsignal-strengthindicator
barisdisplayedabove the slider. Adjustthesliderto obtainthemaximum
readingon theindicator.
Note:Because the changestothesettings are made immediately,you cannot
reverttotheprevioussettingbypressingCLEAR.
5. Whenyou have set allthecontrolsto the levelsyourequire,pressENTER,
orCLEAR toclearthesliderdisplay. Thestatusbarisupdatedto indicate
whichcontrolsareswitched to Auto or On.
Gain Control and Sea Control
TheGAIN controlcanbesettoeither Auto or Manual.In Automode,the
PathfinderPlusradaroptimizesthesetting.TheSEA controlcanbesettoAuto-
Harbour(default),Auto-Offshore or Manualmode.In Auto-Offshore mode,
thePathfinderPlusRadaroptimizesitssettingstoaccountfortheeffectsofsea
clutter.Inharboursorcloseproximitytoland differentautosettingsmay
benecessarytocaterfortheeffectsof land clutter. Toavoidlosingsmall
targetsitisthereforeadvisabletosettheSeacontrol to Auto-Harbour
mode.Alternatively,setbothSeaandGaintoManualmode then adjust
the settingsto ensurethat all closesmall targets arevisible.
TheGAIN controladjuststhe levelof thedisplayof signalsreceivedfrom the
scanner;itisequivalenttoavolumecontrolona radio.
BecausetheSEA control affectsthegain,youmayneedtomanuallyreadjustit
ifyou manuallychangetheGain setting.
Gain Control
Whenthe GAIN control isset toManual, you shouldcheck it every timeyou
changethe rangescale.
Onlong range settings,the gainshouldbe set to give a slightspecklein the
backgroundoftheradarpicture.Do notset the gain too low, or you may miss
smallor weaktargets.
Onshorterranges,youmaywish to reducethegainslightlyto reducethe
speckleandthereforeimprovetarget definition.
