8.4 Cable Runs
Considerthefollowingbeforeinstallingthe systemcables:
• Youneedtoattachthe power cableandthescanner cable.Additional
cableswillberequiredif you areinstallingan integratedsystem.
• Allcablesshouldbeadequately secured,protectedfromphysicaldamage
andprotectedfromexposuretoheat.Avoid runningcablesthrough bilges
ordoorways,or closetomovingorhot objects.
• Acutebends must be avoided
• Wherea cablepassesthroughanexposedbulkheadordeckhead,a water-
tightfeed-throughshouldbeused.
• Securecablesinplaceusingtie-wrapsorlacingtwine.Coilanyextracable
andtie it outoftheway.
Youneedtorunthe followingcables:
• Power/NMEAInputcable,suppliedwiththedisplayunit.Thishasacon-
nectorplugatone endforconnectingthedisplayunit,and7wiresat the
otherendforconnectingthepowersupplyandoptionalNMEAinputs(see
Section 8.8, IntegratedSystems).
CAUTION:
Donotpullthecablethroughthebulkheadsusingacordattachedto the
connector.This coulddamagetheconnections.
• Inter-unitcable,suppliedwiththescannerunit.ThisisVinyl-coveredand
shielded,withaconnectorplugatoneendforconnectingtothedisplayunit
orextensioncable.
• SeaTalkcable,optional,withSeaTalk connector(s)at one or bothends.

Power Cable
Thedisplaysystem(i.e.with a scannerconnectedwhere applicable) is

A5 ft.(1.5 m) power cableissuppliedforconnectingthe ship’s DC power to
thedisplayunit.Longer powercable runs may requirelarger wiregaugesto
minimiseany voltagedrop in thecable. The scannertype and the lengthand
typeoftheinter-unitcablealsoaffectthewiregaugerequiredfortheextension
