To switchto transmitmode,pressand releasethe POWER key. The antenna

sweepshould startto builduptheradarpicture.

Runthroughthe operations describedin Chapter 3and check that allthe

expecteddataisdisplayed.

Bearing Alignment

Whenthe systemiscorrectlyinstalled,youmustcheckthebearingalignment

toensurethattargets appearat their correctbearingrelative to the ship’sbow,

andadjustthealignmentif necessary.

To adjustthe alignment,you needto selecta visibletarget of known bearing

that is displayedon theradar, andthen usethe setup options to adjustthe radar

untilthecorrectbearingreading isobtained.

➤ To determinethe alignmenterror,useone ofthe methods detailedbelow.

1. Visuallyidentify asuitabletarget, suchasa buoythatcanbe seen towards

theedgeof the radarscreen.Typically,thiswillbe on the 1.5 nmrange.

2. Ifthevesselismoored:

i. Determinetheaccuratebearingof the target relativetotheship’sbow

withtheaid of a hand bearingcompass. i.e.Subtract theship’s head

bearingfromthetarget visual bearing.

Example1

Visualbearing= 065 °M

Ship’s head= 021

°M

Relative bearing= 044°R

Example2

Visualbearing= 030°M

Ship’s head=042

°M

Relative bearing=-012°(+360) = 348°R

ii. Measuretherelative bearingofthetarget on the radarusinganEBL.

iii. Ifthereis a difference inthetwobearings(alignmenterror),adjustthe

radaras detailedbelow.

Ifthevesselis underway (in reasonablycalm conditions):

i. Alignthe vessel’s bow to the target.

ii. Note the position of the target relative to theHeading marker.

iii. IfthetargetisnotundertheHeadingmarker,thereisanalignmenterror

andthe radar canbe adjustedasdetailed below.
