5.3 Working with Waypoints
Introduction
TheChartplotter enables youtoplace up to 998 waypoints(in addition,
waypointnumber999isusedforMOB operation): a waypoint is a position
enteredonachartasareference,orasaplacetogoto.Allwaypointsplacedon
thechartplotterarestoredin a waypointdatabaselistwhichincludessymbol,
position,bearing,rangeandadditionaldata.Allwaypointsinthedatabaseare
displayedonthescreen,unlessyou setwaypointdisplayoffin the Chart Set
Upmenu,as describedinChapter 7. You canselect a waypoint,eitheron-
screenor fromthe list, forediting.
Awaypointcanbeplacedat the cursorposition, orat the vessel’scurrent
position(thisis sometimesknownasaneventmark);a waypointatthevessel
positionincludesadditionalinformation (ifavailable)on the depthand
temperature whenit was placed.Alternatively, you can manuallyenter
Waypoints as either Lat/Longcoordinates or Loran TDs which are
automatically convertedinto Lat/Longcoordinates.All waypointscanbe
includedinaroute.You canplace waypoints,usingsimulatormode, before
youinstallthechartplotteron your vessel.
Note:Radarmarksmayalsobedisplayedonthescreenifyourchartplotteris
acombinedradar/chartplotter or ispartofanintegrated system;theseare
screenannotations- you cannotGOTO marks,norincludetheminroutes.
Whenyou place a newwaypoint,itis displayedusing the defaultsymbol of a
cross(unlessyou have changedthe symbolin ChartSetUp).Thewaypointis
addedtothewaypointlistandtaggedwiththenextavailablenumber.Youcan
usetheedit functionsto changethesymbolandname.When the cursor is
positioned overa waypoint,the waypoint bearingand range aredisplayed.
Waypoints inthecurrentrouteareavailableonotherSeaTalkinstruments that
supportcurrentroutetransfer,forexample,anotherRaymarineChartplotteror
ST80Masterview. Youcan transferwaypointsbetween the chartplotter and
otherNMEAor SeaTalk instrumentsusing theWaypointTransfer functions.
Youcanalsosave waypointsto, or loadthemfrom,ausercartridge. These
functionsaredescribedin Section 5.6.
