Youcansetthe units forspeed, depthandtemperature. The units yousetwill
beusedto displayall data, includinginformationreceivedfromother
instruments on thesystem. However, thedistanceunitsdo notaffectthe
instrumented range of theradar,whichis alwaysin nauticalmiles.
Variation Source
Thevariation valueis thedifferencebetweenTrue and Magneticdirection
datafor headingorbearingvalues.The VariationSourceoptionprovides soft
keysfor selectingAuto or Manual variationmode,displaysthe current
variation value foreach and highlightsthe currentlyselectedmode.
Auto Mode
Ifyou select Automode,thedisplayobtainsthe value of variation
automatically, normallyfromreceiveddata.Thevariation valuethatis used
dependsonthedataavailable,andisselectedinthefollowingorderofpriority:
1. Variationvaluefrom thesamesourceas the headingdata:
• IfheadingdataisbeingtakenfromNMEA,thenvariationisalsotaken
fromNMEA
• Ifheadingistakenfrom SeaTalk,thenSeaTalk variationis used
2. Variationvalue from a different source:
• Ifheadingdatais beingtaken fromNMEA,butnoNMEA variationis
available, thenvariationis takenfromSeaTalk
• IfheadingistakenfromSeaTalk,butnoSeaTalkvariationisavailable,
thenvariationis takenfromNMEA
3. A calculated variationvalue,usingpositiondata, ifno SeaTalkorNMEA
valueisavailable
4. Thecurrentmanualvariation value,ifno SeaTalkorNMEA valueand no
positiondatais available
Manual Mode
Ifyou selectManualmode,by pressingeither of the MANUAL keys, you can
specifythelocalvariationvalueaccordingtothearea in which you are
operating. Press theappropriate MANUAL key toadjust the variationup or
down,to a maximum of30° East or West.
Thisvalue isthentransmitted to any otherSeaTalkinstrumentson your
system.Itisretainedif you turn the displayoffand on again.
InManualmode,incoming NMEA variationisignored. However, if the
variationischangedonanotherSeaTalkinstrument,thenewvalueisusedand
themanual valuethatis displayedis updated.
Note:The Manualvariationvalue defaultsto 0°, so it is importantto set up a
valueif variationis not availablefromanexternalsource.
